Memoirs di panna cotta
I’ve always felt like I’ve occupied life’s perimeter, stood on the outside, constantly looking inwards.
Frequently travelling hasn’t allowed me to sink into a particular landscape, but then again, I am content with floating. Saying goodbye so often, some roots have dried up while others have flourished.
My nomadic life has taught me a great deal I would otherwise not have the fortune of learning and I certainly don’t harbour many regrets in the port that is my heart.
I am an illustrator-creative-designer and avid sewist currently based in England.
For the past twenty years I have always created and birthed ideas in a variety of mediums and projects.
I have a BA in Fine Arts and Fashion Design and have previously worked as; an art director, graphic designer and illustrator for both design studios and myself as a freelancer.
Despite the often bulky workload, I have always sewed. I broke my Mother’s sewing machine making clothes for my doll when I was just 12 and I realised if that didn’t quell my passion nothing would.
Often, I catch myself feeling bored. People say that ‘Boredom is the Mother of creativity,’ so that always gives me hope that I must be doing something right.
When I was a child in the 70’s I watched my Mother DIY, knit and crochet so I (obviously) had to get involved. By the age of 14 I was dyeing clothes and embroidering my own Espadrilles.
I have experienced different techniques when studying Fine Arts and have done loads of mixed media projects. It was 1987 and my cassette player was screaming Talking Heads!
All those experiences came in handy when I started as an intern at a design agency but then I had to learn very quickly how to respond to a multitude of varied briefs with professionalism.
My designs span moods, textures and time. I love colours but sometimes black is just enough to get things going.
Patterns, colour palettes and textures are commonplace, after all. I get inspired by the countryside and cities, the places where I lived, by street food markets and vintage stuff. I spend a lot of time thinking about food, tea & coffee and what I am going to cook (and eat) next! And yes, I love painting recipes and all sorts of food and kitchenalia.
My house is practically held together by fabrics, vintage buttons, paints, brushes, threads, and several notebooks. There is always an idea coming out of the blue and a rough needs to be done to see how it will cope in the real world.
While my work could often appear quirky and haphazard, there is in infinite amount of love, patience and thought in each stitch or stroke!
